As part of the immediate action programme “Clean Air 2017 – 2020”, the Federal Government of Germany supports communities with especially high levels of air pollution with the configuration of sustainable and low-emission mobility. The Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure’s (BMVI) development plan “Digitalisation of Municipal Traffic Systems” aims at implementing measures in the field of digitalisation of traffic systems, which help reduce emissions of air pollutants in a short- and medium-term perspective.

According to the development plan’s funding guideline, the City of Frankfurt developed the “Masterplan NOx Reduction”. From 2019-2020 the BMVI funds a set of measures for “environment-oriented traffic management”.
