The Federal Congress is the central forum for urban development policy in Germany. Since the creation of the National Urban Development Policy in 2007, the event has taken place annually at different locations and deals with content, goals and current issues of urban development policy in accordance with the Leipzig Charter decided by the responsible ministers of the EU member states in 2007 and renewed in 2020. The partners of the National Urban Development Policy are the Federal Ministry of Housing, Urban Development and Construction (BMWSB), the Conference of Building Ministers (Bauministerkonferenz), the German Association of Cities (Deutscher Städtetag) and the German Association of Cities and Municipalities (Deutscher Städte- und Gemeindebund).
The congress brings together a broad professional audience of around 1,000 participants from science, politics and practice, thus affirming the cooperation between the local, state and federal levels and the collaborative nature of the National Urban Development Policy.
PROPROJEKT supports the BMWSB in coordinating the institutions involved and accompanied the content and organisational preparation, implementation and documentation of the federal congresses.
