The City of Frankfurt is bidding for the EuroGames – Europe’s largest LGBTQI+ multi-sport event.
The event holds tremendous potential to advance diversity, tolerance, and equality both regionally and across society at large. It takes place annually, typically in July, over the course of four days. Between 2,000 and 5,000 athletes from all over Europe come together to compete in more than 15 different sports.
The competitions are accompanied by a vibrant supporting program, including an opening and closing ceremony as well as various cultural highlights. At the heart of the event is the so-called EuroGames Village – a central meeting place where athletes, volunteers, and visitors gather throughout the event to celebrate inclusion and the recognition of the LGBTIQ+ community in a peaceful and welcoming atmosphere.
Frankfurt already hosted the third edition of the EuroGames back in 1995. The initiative to host the event again 33 years later originated from the city council.
PROPROJEKT supports Frankfurt’s Sports Department and the Frankfurt Volleyball Club (FVV) – one of the largest queer sports associations in Europe – in developing the bid book, which will be submitted to the European Gay and Lesbian Sport Federation (EGLSF) by September 30, 2025. The decision on the Host City for the EuroGames 2028 will be made in October. The bid is presented under the motto: 'Sport, Democracy and Freedom – united in the heart of Europe'.
