On 21st March 2015, the members of the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) unanimously voted for the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg to become the German Bid City in the race for the Olympic and Paralympic Games 2024. Hamburg therewith entered the international competition for the biggest multi-sport event on earth. Olympic and Paralympic Games set the stage for everlasting moments for thousands of athletes and sports fans, providing the host with the great opportunity to present its city to millions of visitors and billions of TV viewers. They are however extremely demanding in terms of venue planning and transport infrastructure.
The Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg developed an emotionally inspiring, yet economically moderate bid concept focused on the long-term legacy for the city, the country and sports.
Unfortunately, on November 29th a majority of Hamburgs citizens eligible to vote voted against the planned bid.
PROPROJEKT together with AS+P was assigned as Consortium Hamburg 2024 – PROPROJEKT / AS+P with the planning, coordination and production of all bid documents related to the awarding of the Olympic and Paralympic Games 2024. The consortium was responsible for the coordination and quality assurance of the overall technical bid process that started in May 2015. This not only contained the development of an integrated master plan for Hamburg 2024 based on the already existing concept but also the preparation for the Candidature Files required by the IOC.
