From 17th to 25th June 2023 the Special Olympics World Games take place in Berlin. PROPROJEKT actively supports the organizing committee on site in the main operations center and with a volunteer team.
In the run-up to the event, more than 7,000 athletes from over 180 nations are acclimatizing in communities all over Germany. In addition to training opportunities and a cultural program, a local torch run marks one of the highlights before the official lighting of the torch will kick off the games at the Opening Ceremony on June 17 in Berlin's Olympic Stadium. PROPROJEKT is also involved here and accompanies the torch run of the Indian delegation in Frankfurt am Main.
The Special Olympics World Games is recognized by the International Olympic Committee as the world's most inclusive sporting event for athletes with intellectual and multiple disabilities. Germany is hosting the event for the first time. The World Games shall serve as occasion and opportunity to focus more closely on the practical implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and to allow people with disabilities to participate more in social life and especially in sport.
