In the run-up to the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup, the Berlin Senate Department for the Interior and Sports, together with the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Climate Action, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety and the Berlin Senate Department for Science, Health and Care, is hosting the FUTURE LEAGUE conference ‘Major Sporting Events of the Future – Berlin Gets People Moving’ on Wednesday 2 September.
At the EUREF Campus Berlin, experts from the fields of sport, politics, academia, public administration and civil society will discuss how large-scale sustainable sporting events can provide a real boost to participation, physical activity, health and climate protection – and what specific opportunities this presents for Berlin and beyond.

As part of the event, the Female* Empowerment Night will take place at Fotografiska Berlin on the evening before the conference, featuring a screening of the documentary “The World on Our Shoulders” and a high-profile panel discussion centred on the question “who owns sports?”
The events provide a space for networking, sharing ideas, and developing joint solutions.
PROPROJEKT is supporting the Senate Department for the Interior and Sports with conceptual, content-related, and organisational assistance in preparing and conducting the conference.
