Programme and Legacy Management SOWG Berlin 2023
The Special Olympics World Summer Games will take place in Berlin in 2023. On January 30, 2020 the organising committee and the international Special Olympics federation signed the Games Agreement for the largest inclusive sports event in the world at the German President’s residency. PROPROJEKT has accompanied Special Olympics Germany and the Berlin Senate from the beginning of the bidding process on and will now also support the organising committee.
The Special Olympics World Games are the flagship event of the Special Olympics movement, which stands for equality, tolerance and acceptance for people with intellectual disabilities all over the world. The event is characterised by nine days of captivating and inspiring competitions between approximately 7,000 athletes from 170 nations in 24 sports, where the sports activity of people with intellectual disabilities and unified of people with and without disabilities is the focus of attention. A comprehensive programme in the fields of science, health, education and culture accompanies the sports competitions. In addition to the Olympiapark, Messe Berlin and other renowned Berlin sports venues, the entire city is to become a meeting place for people with and without disabilities to anchor inclusive living in people's minds. A Germany-wide programme on inclusion aims to improve everyday life for people with intellectual disabilities beyond the event.
PROPROJEKT will be responsible for the programme management and legacy planning within the organising committee and will oversee the planning and implementation process, manage the interfaces and control the legacy activities of the Special Olympics World Games 2023.
