The Federal Congress on National Urban Development Policy takes place annually as part of the joint initiative National Urban Development Policy initiated by the federal, state and local governments, which has been implementing the contents of the Leipzig Charter on Sustainable European Cities adopted by the responsible ministers of the EU member states in Germany since 2007. Partners of the initiative are the Federal Ministry for Housing, Urban Development and Building (Bundesministerium für Wohnen, Stadtentwicklung und Bauwesen / BMWSB), the Conference of Building Ministers (Bauministerkonferenz), Association of German Cities (Deutscher Städtetag) and the German City and Local Authorities Council (Deutscher Städte- und Gemeindebund).
This year the 15th Federal Congress took place on 14/15 September 2022 at the event location STATION in Berlin. A total of over 1,100 representatives of urban development and from the interested public took part in the event and exchanged views on current urban development issues. The congress was opened by Dr. Rolf Bösinger, State Secretary at the BMWSB. The second day of the congress began with a welcome from the Berlin Senator for Urban Development, Construction and Housing, Andreas Geisel, followed by Klara Geywitz, Federal Minister for Housing, Urban Development and Building. In order to deepen the insights gained in the morning, there was the opportunity to discuss urban development issues in more depth in the afternoon in several arenas on different topics. On Friday, there was also the opportunity to take part in excursions and to experience urban development through individual projects.
PROPROJEKT supported the BMWSB in coordinating the institutions involved and accompanied the content and organisational preparation, implementation and documentation of the federal congress.
