Germany is host of the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games

The Executive Committee of the International University Sports Federation (FISU) attributed on Saturday (15 May 2021) in Düsseldorf the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games to the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia.

PROPROJEKT Planungsmanagement & Projektberatung GmbH together with AS+P Albert Speer und Partner GmbH were responsible for the candidature development of the second largest multi-sports event after the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

With the professional support of PROPROJEKT and AS+P, the German University Sports Federation (adh) has developed the candidature concepts in the past two years in close cooperation with the Federal Ministry of the Interior, Building and Community, the State Chancellery of North Rhine-Westphalia, FISU as well as the cities of Bochum, Duisburg, Düsseldorf, Essen and Mülheim an der Ruhr, adh partner universities and further partners from sports and academic organizations.

In July 2025 North Rhine-Westphalia with the Rhine-Ruhr region will be host of around 10,000 athletes from 170 countries. At the 2025 Rhine-Ruhr FISU World University Games, athletes will compete at 12 days in 18 different sports. The planes foresee competitions in Bochum, Duisburg, Düsseldorf, Essen and Mülheim an der Ruhr. Besides high-performance sports, the concept has set a strong focus on science and education, legacy, sustainability and innovation as well as the intercultural exchange.
