Stadium Karlsruhe – Economic site comparison
The Wildparkstadion in Karlsruhe, Germany, which was opened in 1955 and expended in the 1990ies, does not meet the requirements for a modern football stadium anymore. Therefore, several options for expanding the existing venue or building a new stadium in the old or a new location were analysed. Meanwhile, two alternative locations in proximity to the highway and the construction of a new stadium in the original Wildpark location are under consideration. Under the direction of the Karlsruher Fächer GmbH, the local city development authority, an analysis of these three potential locations was implemented. This analysis included the aspects accessibility for traffic, safety and security, expected construction and infrastructure costs, revenue potential and environmental issues. These factors were assessed qualitatively and monetarily. In order to ensure the comparability of the three potential locations, a reference stadium with a capacity of 25,000 seats and standing room for another 10,000 persons was used.
PROPROJEKT was commissioned to assess the potential costs and the related revenue potentials of a new stadium in the three locations by the Karlsruher Fächer GmbH, the local city development authority. The revenue potential included ticketing, hospitality, naming rights, sponsoring and catering. For the analysis of the three locations, the revenue potentials were calculated and compared.
