On December 8, 2007, the German National Olympic Committee decided unanimously to support a German bid to host the XXIII Olympic and XII Paralympic Winter Games in 2018. Munich teamed up with Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Schönau am Königssee to enter the international competition on IOC level (International Olympic Committee).
In collaboration with AS+P, PROPROJEKT was commissioned by ‘Olympiapark München GmbH’ (the current office co-ordinating the ‘Munich 2018’ bid) to develop the conceptual feasibility study that would form the basis for all decision-making. The study proved that Munich is able to meet all the IOC criteria for candidate cities and is more than able to produce an excellent bid of an internationally competitive standard.
PROPROJEKT was in charge of the strategic planning and development. Moreover, PROPROJEKT took on the planning management for the competition and non-competition venues, transportation, accommodation, environment and climate as well as the co-ordination and consultation with the public and private parties involved in the planning process. PROPROJEKT was responsible for maintaining the compliance with IOC requirements and standards.
